Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is a American television journalist, commentator and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language and culture from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was employed as a reporter at KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was appointed chief congressional correspondent in 1988. She was made the Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 was appointed chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell was a guest on the TV news program Meet the Press as a panelist and host. Mitchell joined the panel in 1988's presidential debates which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married with Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has received numerous awards for her journalism achievements, such as her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. Mitchell was also awarded by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. She has covered several notable news stories throughout time, including budget reform, tax reform, and The Iran Contra affair. She traveled extensively together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
